Online and "On the House"

Hi! I’m Sharon, and I work in marketing here at Flat World Knowledge.
I thought I could take up some space on our blog writing a little bit about us. One word kind of sums it up: OPEN.

We're not like: argue with your partner about who forgot to let the dog out on your cell phone in your office with the door open, OPEN.

But more like: we know you know you have a big head or follow Brittney Spears, and we're going to have a little fun at your expense, OPEN.

And exactly like: we're the first commercial OPEN college textbook publisher, OPEN.

EVERYONE here is proud of that fact. Not just some of the employees or some authors at Flat World, but ALL OF THEM.

Some may find it a little annoying, but we are giddy with the fact that because of our open creative commons license, we can offer high quality customizable books, online and "on the house" (free for those of you not "in-the-know").

We're joyful about being able to sell print books, and other alternatives, at a super low cost, too...again, all because we're OPEN.

So, for the next three weeks we are taking things one-step further.

Eight of our talented authors went above and beyond and created new enrichment exercises, problems, and cases for instructors everywhere to use in their classes.

They are on the house, and because our online books are as well, instructors all over the country can use this enrichment material and even refer students back to our online book. Heck, they can even assess on the extra project with our test item files. No joke. Check out the "on the house" stuff here.

In addition, these very same authors are offering ”On the House” Web Seminars on teaching everything from Virtual Worlds to Social Networking. Join one (or two), we’d love to have you. We’d love to have you.

I know, I know this is a blog post—and yeah, yeah it’s a little pitchy…or is it?

Because if everything’s "on the house", can this really be considered a pitch?
I prefer to think of it as an invitation to a party. I say it’s a party—a big ‘ol party… celebrating a big ‘ol change in the textbook industry.
