Student Frequently Asked Questions

The first thing you’ll need to do is Find Your Class. Do this by
accessing either the ‘Find My Class’ link from
the Students drop down menu on the homepage, OR access the
Student Class Finder by scrolling down on the
homepage to the Class Finder widget.

Enter your school name, professor’s name, course, course number, or
any combination of this information into the Class
Finder tool. A list of courses will appear. Click on your
course. This brings you to your textbook for that course.

1. Find your class and access your assigned
   textbook by clicking on your course.
2. Choose the ‘Buy This Book’ option and select from a variety of
   affordable offline formats, all at a fraction of the cost of the
   average hardcover textbook. These include:
   • Print-it-yourself (PIY) PDFs that can be downloaded to your
     local hard drive and printed out
   • Black and white soft cover copies
   • Full color soft-cover copies

To purchase PIY chapters individually, click the ‘Read Online’ link
and select the chapter you want from the table of contents. A button
appears below giving you the option to print out that chapter for just
$2.49.

• All study aid materials including flashcards, quizzes and audio
  guides are online tools that are made available to you via your ‘My
  Flatworld’ account. You must be logged in to access your account.
• Once logged in, click ‘My Flatworld’ and toggle to the ‘My Stuff’
  tab. All your purchases are here with expandable links by
  chapter. Once you expand the link for a particular chapter, if
  you’ve purchased study aid tools, these will appear here as
  well. You need to click into individual chapters for the study aid
  links to appear. Click the links to engage the modules.

If you have purchased a PIY copy of the book: Login and go into your
‘My Flatworld’ account. Under ‘I Have Purchased Access To’ click the
title of your text to expand to an individual chapter. Click the
download link and print that chapter.

If you have not purchased the book: View the free online textbook for
your course by clicking the ‘Read Online’ link. Select the chapter you
want from the table of contents. At the bottom of the page click the
‘Print This Chapter For $2.49.’

It's important that you save the file to your desktop or local drive upon receipt. You will have access to download the file upon opening it three times. After three accesses, you'll be blocked and if you haven't saved the file by then, you'll need to re-purchase it or contact customer service.

• Your ‘My Flatworld’ account gives you access to your purchased
  materials and study aids, and enables you take full advantage of all
  the benefits Flat World Knowledge has to offer, including making
  notes as you read online.
• If you haven’t registered yet, simply click ‘Sign Up’ in the upper right-hand corner
  and create an account. You will have immediate access to your ‘My
  Flatworld’ account.

Flat World Knowledge provides a truly unique online reading
experience. You can:

• Intuitively page through the book by clicking the
  ‘next’ arrow. Page back by clicking ‘previous’. Simply scroll down
  to read the text.
• Jump to different parts of the book by utilizing
  the table of contents. Click on a specific chapter and the online
  module will bring you directly to that chapter.
• Take notes as you read. You’ll need to have signed
  in to take advantage of this feature. Create a login and password on
  the homepage if you have not already done so and then login. You’ll
  notice as you mouse over a paragraph, a clickable plus sign (+)
  appears. Click the plus sign to make notes. Your notes can be saved
  and easily accessed in your ‘My Flatworld’ account. Click ‘save
  note’ to save your notes as you take them. You can then see all your
  annotations listed on your My Flatworld page for future reference,
  like when it’s time to study for an exam. Toggle over to the ‘My
  Notes’ tab to view them.
• Search the book for a key term. Click the ‘Search
  the Book’ link located in the lower left corner of the page. Type in
  the term you want to search for and you’ll receive a list of all
  appearances of that term throughout the book.
• Lookup a listing of all key terms for quick
  reference. Click the key terms block, next to the table of
  contents. Scroll over each key term and you can have the definition
  for that key term listed out. Great for quick reference and
  available for each chapter.
• You can read online in PDF view to see page numbers. You'll notice when you mouse over the PDF icon from the menubar, you can enter a PDF view of the book. Just click and you'll be able to read in PDF format and see page numbers.
